The 2019 Saint-Romain was a little closed when I tasted it, having recently seen some sulfur dioxide, but the outlines are promising: notes of crisp orchard fruit, white flowers and almonds that segue into a medium to full-bodied, rich and rather muscular palate that reflects the low yields and elevated maturity of the vintage.

Haisma writes, ' A much bigger proportion of Le Jarron this year brings a more textured style to the blend. Le Jarron comprises 70% and the balance is Le Village. Very refreshing but still rich, St-Romain can really offer magnificent value for money. No longer is St-Romain considered a backwater appellation. My love affair with St-Romain continues.' Pale gold. Sweet, golden-textured and round on the nose. Richer than many other vintages but brought to heel by the chalky tannins on the end. Lacks a tiny bit of freshness. But you could enjoy it immediately! The 2019 Saint-Romain Village comes from two parcels, Les Jarrons and Village, and presents an attractive bouquet of orange blossom and touches of black currant leaf. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Vibrant and energetic, leading into a precise, white-peach-tinged finish. Good potential.
