The 2019 Pommard Clos Les Arvelets 1er Cru has a rather conservative bouquet at first, but it opens nicely with time, with a mixture of red and black fruit, damp earth, crushed rock and a touch of rose petal. I admire the delineation here. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity and sappy red fruit intermixed with black pepper and graphite. Cohesive and persistent, this is a very capable Pommard that should age gracefully in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Fleshy and charming, the 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Arvelets bursts with aromas of berries, cherries, petals and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, with an ample core of ripe fruit underpinned by fine but youthfully chalky tannins, this will offer a broad drinking window.
Mid crimson (it's almost as though Haisma's wines get lighter the higher up the scale you go). Very lightly gamey on the nose. But on the palate it's a complete charmer – very broad and rich with none of the dry tannins that can sometimes mark young Pommards. And with real undertow on the finish too. Delightful already. (JR)
