Punteggio 18/20 · Da bere 2030-2045, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Jan 2024

Tasted blind. Deepest crimson, like damson skins. Sweet and dark-fruited at the same time. Savoury too. Not yet open but complex. Rich fruit filling out elegant dry tannins, dark-fruited and long. Powerful yet refined. (JH)

The 2020 Meyney has a crisp, focused and detailed bouquet with precise blackberry, blueberry and cedar scents that are almost Pauillac in style. The palate is medium-bodied with impressive concentration on the entry, layers of licorice-tinged black fruit and a peppery finish that wants to make a statement. But it's just a bit squidgy. It will require five or six years in bottle just to shave its edges. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot. 44.6 hl/ha. Harvested 16 September to 1 October. Dark crimson. Fairly reticent nose with a hint of blackcurrant and blueberry. Fresh and juicy on the palate. Seemingly lighter than the 2018 or 2019 and more linear in style. Big tannic frame, though, the tannins rippling with muscle. Dry but not drying finish. Embryonic but clear potential. (JL)

Full bottle 1,348 g. Certified HVE. 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 13% Petit Verdot. Muscled, long, racy and savoury. A long graphite spine. Rippling with dark-red fruit that seems to gleam like old, polished mahogany; the quiet, cool breath of green pine needles balancing the soft glow of burning cigar. The taut muscle of the tannins becomes more evident on the finish. One to hold in the cellar for a few more years. (TC)
