This feels a bit muted at the moment, but with air a lift of blue fruit emerges. This is light, fresh, old school Claret on the palate. The tannins are slightly severe at the moment, but will tame with time, complementing a core of bright crunchy freshness and that saline freshness that makes the best Bordeaux such a joy with food. Despite the warm, dry summer, this is bright and almost red-fruited, with a long, fresh finish. A reliable, bargain Claret that will offer much drinking pleasure.

Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Dark-fruited and perfumed with violets. Open and fragrant but a little bit lean on the mid palate, though the fruit came back on the finish. (JH)

The 2020 Chasse-Spleen has a ripe nose of blackcurrant and strawberry pastille, a little more opulent than its Left Bank peers. The palate is well balanced with plenty of fruit and a touch more rondeur /lower acidity, but it doesn't compromise on freshness and fans out nicely toward the finish. This is very promising. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

The 2020 Chasse-Spleen exhibits aromas of cassis, plums, pencil shavings and dark chocolate, followed by a medium to full-bodied palate that's firmer and more austere than its 2019 counterpart, with powdery tannins asserting themselves on the dry finish.
