The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Badia a Passignano is creamy and sensual from start to finish. In 2018, the Badia shows its typically dark profile but with less heaviness than has been present in some previous vintages. Silky and supple, the 2018 has a ton to offer.

This is a really beautiful red with cherry, blackberry, violet and chocolate character. Full and layered, yet it remains linear and bright, with an energetic finish. So drinkable now, but better in 2024.
San Casciano in Val di Pesa. 100% Sangiovese. Each vineyard parcel was kept as a separate lot throughout fermentation and ageing. A 10-day alcoholic fermentation was followed by an additional period of 10–12 days of maceration. The wine was racked, still separated by vineyard of origin, and transferred to Hungarian oak barrels with a small percentage going into French oak barrels, where malo took place. Blending just before bottling. High alcohol! But it's remarkably well hidden with freshness being the overriding characteristic of this wine. Very much a Sangiovese with real grip and no shortage of vibrant fruit. Clean finish. Quite remarkable! (JR)
