The 2018 Meursault Village was matured in puncheons because Dominique Lafon was running out of new barrels for his Premier Crus. It has a very sensual bouquet of dried honey, shaved almond and light passion fruit aromas. The palate is quite sweet on the entry, displaying passion fruit and pineapple tints, and creamy in texture, but for me, it is missing some tension on the finish. I suspect that this will be an earlier-drinking Meursault Village from Lafon.

The 2018 Meursault Village includes some barrels of the Clos de la Baron that is not part of the blend (my sample is prepared as it will be bottled). It has a well-defined bouquet of light oyster shell and crustacean scents, focused if not the most intense of Dominique Lafon’s 2018s. The palate is pure on the entry with a lightly honeyed texture and a fine bead of acidity. Very harmonious, revealing traces of white peach and orange pith mixed with walnut toward the finish. Very fine.
There are fully 68 barrels of the 2018 Meursault Village this year, a considerable improvement over the usual 50, and the wine is already very inviting, revealing notes of pear, Meyer lemon, hazelnuts, drawn butter and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent, with good cut to balance its mid-palate amplitude, concluding with a flavorful finish.
