The 2019 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru has a strange bouquet, high-toned with orange pith and quince scents, but it seems bereft of terroir expression and/or mineralité . The palate is balanced with a slightly honeyed entry, a fairly thick layering of new oak that is fortunately assimilated nicely with the fruit, imparting a sense of cohesion, perhaps its saving grace. It builds nicely to a weighty finish, though it needs more complexity considering the vineyard in question. This is a nice Chardonnay rather than a great Meursault, which is disappointing compared to its showing from barrel. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The palate is quite lush and honeyed on the entry, though there is sufficient countervailing acidity and a delicate touch of spice toward the finish. Very fine.
