A magical young wine, the 2019 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru wafts from the glass with scents of peonies, sweet red berries, plums, exotic spices and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, supple and melting, its satiny attack segues into an ample, enveloping core of succulent, perfumed fruit framed by powdery tannins and girdled by lively acids. The 2019 unites the immense charm of the 2017 vintage with the depth and concentration of 2015 in an irresistible combination. It hasn't yet shut down after bottling, and I'm not sure it ever will.

The 2019 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru has a very intense bouquet of beautifully defined dark berry fruit laced with woodland and light ferrous aromas, displaying wonderful focus and precision. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, touches of Earl Grey and bergamot infusing the blackberry and raspberry and dovetailing into a spicy finish that fans out with panache. Superb.
1.5 barrels. Just south of Le Chambertin with Simon Bize on the other side. Tank sample. Interesting slight edge of cheesiness. Good attack but relatively light. Fresh, pure finish but it’s not 100% convincingly grand cru. This seems a little timid. (JR)

Domaine Duroché has, under Pierre Duroché, become one of the most sought-out and respected wine domaines in Gevrey-Chambertin. The wines are delicate and detailed, yet with old-vine intensity, a clear sense of place and style – and it’s easy to see why they’ve rapidly become so in-demand.
