Note di degustazione
A blend of 85% Sangiovese, with a bit of Canaiolo and some 'other varieties'. Lovely density and seamlessly integrated. Malt notes, on a bed of chocolate and prunes. Firm but limber tannins. A juicy tang adding brightness and lift. (TC)

The 2006 Chianti Classico Castello di Ama flows with the essence of sweet perfumed fruit. Red cherries, raspberries, flowers and spices are intermingled with suggestions of tobacco, licorice and earthiness that linger in the background. The wine reveals incredible length, and sweet, silky tannins that caress the palate all the way through to the close. In a word: Awesome. There's not much else to say except that the Chianti Classico Castello di Ama is highly recommended. Castello di Ama is 80% Sangiovese plus Malvasia Nera, Merlot and Canaiolo.

Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016. I am not sure I possess the vocabulary to do these majestic wines – the reds in particular – justice. Simply put, Castello di Ama’s 2006s are spectacular and every bit as magnificent as they were when I tasted them late that year. Simply put, this is a profound set of new releases from Marco and Lorenza Pallanti. Sadly, few readers are likely to have an opportunity to experience the top wines, as pricing is way up in the stratosphere. Importer: The Sorting Table, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 603-1461
Medium crimson, starting to show some age. Chocolatey black forest gateau kind of nose, with herbal note. Lively, succulent sweet cherry jam palate, with lifting acidity, leading to a fresh, fruit driven finish with quite intense tannins. (WS)
