The 2018 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard Haut Densité 1er Cru was poured from magnum by Olivier Lamy. This has quite an intense bouquet with more white pithy fruit, pear and Granny Smith apples shrugging off the warmth of that growing season quite nonchalantly. The palate is well balanced with a malic entry, slightly oily in texture, fanning out nicely towards the finish with a touch of black pepper on the aftertaste. Excellent.

An unusually and impressively muscular, concentrated wine in a vintage often defined by high yields, Lamy's 2018 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Haute Densité exhibits aromas of pear, green pineapple, freshly baked bread, citrus oil, oyster shell and smoke. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's a rich, layered wine with lively acids and chalky grip on the finish. Today, it remains an infant and will richly reward bottle age.

The nose is complex and fascinating, slightly floral, with a little bit of graphite, giving the idea that the main block of wine is not even starting to show but is just giving off a few little waves of flavour to amuse us with. Huge potential here, more acidity at the back, what a wealth of fruit! Startling stuff and really very long indeed.
