The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru clearly has the most powerful aromatics from Simon-Billaud in 2018, offering fragrant scents of pear, yellow plum, chalk and sea spray, that marine element becoming more prominent with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with a gorgeous, seamless, slightly honeyed texture. Good acidity here keeps everything in balance – undeniably an opulent Les Clos that trades tension for richness, yet manages to keep everything on a perfectly even keel. Great length. This is very promising, although it will be difficult to resist in its youth.

The 2018 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos has turned out well, wafting from the glass with aromas of golden orchard fruit, citrus oil, dried white flowers and drawn butter. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it's bright and lively, with a fleshy core of fruit, succulent acids and a delicate, mineral finish.
The 2018 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru is a real outlier in this range. There is plenty of richness and volume, but at present, the 2018 is completely dominated by oak. Perhaps time will help, but for now, the Clos is really quite awkward, especially next to the other wines in the range.
