Touch of VA, purple fruits, summer pudding, high level of raisin fruit, inky nose. Structural tannins lacking full resolution and a bit sharp and rustic on the finish.

The 2019 Chasse-Spleen has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry and bilberry fruit, undergrowth and tobacco - classic Médoc really. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of feisty red fruit, modest depth and showing some austerity towards the finish. A more cerebral Left Bank 2019, though I would have liked a bit more persistence. This might be entering an awkward adolescence. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
Tasted blind. Deep, shaded crimson. Some depth and ambition – so long as the fruit can last. Quite severe. I’m giving it the benefit of the doubt… (JR)
Great purity and freshness (acid is high and fruit is crunchy), but the palate is light and simple on the finish. With the initial intensity of fruit, this is worth ageing for a few years. (RH)

If there’s one Moulis estate you know, it is likely Chasse-Spleen, today owned by the Foubet family. Vines have been planted here since the 16th century, and today it has an impressive 100 hectares to its name.
