Punteggio 93/100 · Allen Meadows, Burghound, Nov 2020

Along with the Blanchots, this is the most floral-suffused wine in the range with its elegant and pure aromas of white peach and discreet Chablis elements that include tidal pool and quinine. The succulent but impressively intense middle weight flavors are less generous but notably finer while exhibiting outstanding length on the bone-dry finale. This classy and tightly wound effort is also potentially excellent and well-worth considering.

The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru does not deliver the same delineation and precision as the Fourchaume tasted alongside. This feels a bit smudged. The palate is rounded in texture and quite honeyed, with more overt tropical notes of mango and passion fruit, but the warmth of the summer denudes the finishing precision and bite you seek in a Chablis.

The 2018 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is precise and nuanced, with all of the energy that is such a signature of this site. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint and crushed rocks all run through a finely cut Chablis that offers terrific nuance as well as class. This is one of the highlights in the range.

Notes of citrus oil, crisp green apple, fresh peach and oyster shell introduce the 2018 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive wine that's tightly wound after its recent bottling. Bottled under Diam like all of these 2018s, it will reward some bottle age.
