Plums, dark cherries, tobacco and tea leaves on the nose. together with dark-chocolate and some savory-meat notes. Itâs medium-bodied with tight-grained tannins. Serious and austere mineral expression. Crystal clear. Try from 2022, but already so good to drink.

Touch of oxidation. Density of black, smoky fruit is more than matched by the blocky, firm tannins typical of Maranges. True to the appellation, but not a lot of fun right now. (TJ)
The 2018 Maranges Clos de la Boutière 1er Cru comes from a parcel of 80-year-old selection massale vines (the domaine being one of only two to produce bottlings from this Premier Cru). It has a well-defined bouquet that is a little more mineral-driven compared to the La Fussières. The palate is framed by fine tannins and crisp, slightly tart red cherry and wild strawberry fruit. This Clos de la Boutière is very precise and translates the terroir with style and verve. Just superb.
