The 2018 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru is clean and precise on the nose, quite effervescent with orange zest and hints of quince. There is a strictness, but it seems to open nicely with aeration. The palate has a sour note on the entry, plenty of extract, good matière , some reduction at play though that should stand it in good stead for longer-term ageing. A tad coarse on the finish, but I like its gumption. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

The king of the cellar this year is the 2018 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières, a deep and layered wine that unwinds in the glass with notes of citrus oil, fresh Anjou pear, peach and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and multidimensional, it's bright, lively and concentrated, with a textural, enveloping profile of considerable charm.
Tank sample. Pretty closed on the nose. Tight and dry on the palate. Rather hard work and a bit tart but it's clean and persistent. (JH)
