Punteggio 87-89/100 · Da bere 2021-2035, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2017

As mentioned in the producer introduction, one-third of the 2016 Volnay Village consists of whatever could be rescued from the three premier crus this year. As such, it has a powerful and ambitious bouquet with feisty blackberry and blueberry fruit laced with spices, perhaps just showing a little VA here. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy black fruit, a healthy dash of cracked black pepper and a penetrating finish. There is something on the aftertaste reminiscent of padrón peppers, discrete but certainly there. Hopefully this will calm down once in bottle.

Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2021-2029, Jancis Robinson MW, Nov 2017

Usually two premiers crus in this: Les Lurets and En L’Ormeau. Two parcels that are too small to make separately. He’s added a little Brouillards so the premier cru total is almost 30%. No new oak. The only red already in tank prior to bottling at the beginning of 2018. Bright crimson. Bright bitter-cherry fruit on the nose. Very charming and fruity at first but then quite strict structure on the end – fine tannins and lots of ambition and grip. Very long for a village wine and good concentration. GV ? (JR)
