An incipiently complex bouquet of Anjou pear, citrus oil and nutmeg preface the 2017 Meursault Vireuils, a medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered wine that's chalky, incisive and racy. The inherent tension of the site is tempered by the charm of the vintage to compelling effect.

In tank on full lees since August. Mid slope thus cooler than the sites that supply the straight Meursault. The last parcels to be harvested. 15% new oak on village wines and then barrels up to 6 years old. They are empty just one week. Tank sample. You can see the cooler slope here, this is chiselled and tight but still had lots of matière in the mouth. On the finish there’s light spice and a long stony elegance. Streamlined intensity. (JH)
