The 2018 Chablis Vaudésirs Grand Cru is shrouded by so much SO2 at the beginning that I thought it was faulty. However, it opens with aeration to reveal fresh lime, Granny Smith apples and light flinty scents. The palate is balanced but disjointed at the moment, yet it slowly coalesces and remains gawky. It is a "mean" Chablis that you might misconstrue as coming from a cooler vintage, but I think it will pull through in the end. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

A solid Chablis with pretty depth of fruit and a framed palate of mangoes, dried pineapple and acidity. Medium to full body. Dried-apple and pineapple flavors. A nice balance of ripe acidity and phenolics. Drink now.
More evident wood stops short of fighting with the mildly exotic nose of spicy apricot, white peach and just enough Chablis typicity to be convincing. There is better intensity and punch to the relatively delicate middle weight flavors that possess reasonably good depth though the finish is a bit drying and short. This may well recover but it would be fair to say that this is somewhat disjointed today. 2025+

Domaine Long-Depaquit is one of the largest in Chablis, with 62 hectares under vine. It is owned by the Beaune-based négociant Albert Bichot who has managed the property since 1967
