Da bere 0-0, Neal Martin, Aug 2021

The 2017 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru did not really cohere on the nose and seemed just a little acetic, although it is very faint. The palate is bitter and rather hard. A Chablis that does not really flow and feels too lean on the finish. A bit of TCA here? Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

The 2017 Chablis Montmains 1er Cru has a very succinct bouquet with pressed white flower, a touch of cold wet pavement and oyster leaf. The palate is very refined with a crisp line of acidity, very focused and elegant with judicious acidity that lends mouth-watering sapidity on the finish. This has great potential and should repay those with the nous to cellar for a few years.

The deepest and most reserved of Tribut's wines, the 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Montmains unfurls in the glass with notes of struck match, lemon oil, white flowers and crushed chalk. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, blocky and concentrated, with excellent tension and cut, built around a tangy line of acidity that lends terrific drive to the finish. It will need the most time in bottle.
