The 2010 Nemo Vigneto Il Mulino is the most masculine of Castello di Monsanto's new releases, yet it remains one of the most feminine and ethereal expression of Cabernet Sauvignon found in Tuscany. Instead of boldness and brawn, this wine delivers streamlined elegance and pointed aromas of dark fruit, spice, leather, tobacco and balsam herb. Those licorice and rosemary flavors give the wine an all-Italian personality.

The 2010 Nemo Vigneto Il Mulino is incredibly shut down today. There is plenty of depth and intensity in the glass, but the tannins and acid are both pretty ferocious at this stage. This is another wine readers need to be prepared to cellar. Black cherries, blackberries, savory herbs, graphite and new leather emerge over time, but only with great reluctance. The 2010 is holding quite a bit of power in reserve. The mid-palate richness and volume of Cabernet Sauvignon vis-a-vis Sangiovese comes through in spades in a magnificent, pedigreed wine to enjoy over the coming decades. The 2010 needs a lot of air, as it is slightly reduced, but it is also hugely promising.
