The 2002 Vosne-Romanée Les Beaux Monts 1er Cru shows just a small bricking on the rim. Typical of Lalou's style, there is a sense of sumptuousness on the nose, though you would never describe it as powerful. Mulberry, aniseed and light toffee-ish aromas, very well defined and pure. The palate is very well balanced with soft tannin, perfectly pitched acidity with cashmere-textured red fruit. This Vosne-Romanée feels as if it is reclining in a comfy chaise-longue. Drinking perfectly now but it will keep. Tasted with Mr. V at Portland restaurant, London.

Sadly, the 2002 Romanée St.Vivant from Domaine Leroy was corked, but a bottle of the Vosne-Romanée Beaux-Monts quickly appeared in its place. The dark, voluptuous and powerful side of Vosne came through in this deeply spiced, expressive Burgundy. (AG)
Saturated red-ruby. Pure, blacker aromas of cassis, licorice and violet; lively and perfumed. Very suave on entry, then juicy, precise and tightly wound, with highly aromatic dark berry and violet flavors. Finishes with strong tannins and great lift and persistence. Less exotic and less robust than the Brulees, but more sharply delineated and even longer.
