Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2020-2030, Neal Martin, Nov 2018

The 2015 Meursault Les Charmes Dessus 1er Cru has a rather conservative bouquet with subtle aromas of citrus peel, walnut and smoke. I would just prefer more energy and vivacity to come through. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite saline in the mouth, but very tight and backward on the finish. Give this another 24 months in bottle and hope that it opens up. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Bright medium yellow. Ripe peach and a hint of vanillin oak on the nose. Supple, broad and very dry, offering a fine-grained texture to its peach and apricot flavors, with a citrus element providing lift. This laid-back, chewy wine spreads out horizontally and lingers on the finish. Built to age: give this wine at least a couple years in the cellar before pulling the cork.

The 2015 Meursault 1er Cru Charmes, matured in 25% new oak, needed a little coaxing from the glass. It eventually offers scents of citrus fruit, pine needles and hazelnut, but remains subtle and reserved. These aromatics don't want to come out and play (at least not today). The palate is clean and fresh on the entry. This is well balanced with hints of almond, dried orange peel and white pepper, gently building in the mouth but never getting too carried away on the controlled finish. Perhaps it will loosen its collar once in bottle? One upon which to keep an eye.
