Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2017-2028, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Oct 2017

Fruit for this Riserva comes from the Vigna Paganelli; however, it was not declared as such back then. The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva would have been released in 2005. Despite this prolonged bottle aging time, the bouquet remains a bit closed and shut down. In terms of consistency and texture, the wine exhibits thick lines and lots of fruit fiber that adds generously to its overall richness. The aromas take a bit longer to warm up and they never completely reach full intensity. Dried fruit is followed by old spice and mesquite. Ultimately, this wine plays its best cards in terms of mouthfeel. The wine's bold texture relaxes to reveal smooth and polished tannins that fuel a long and elegant finish.

Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2014-2028, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Feb 2014

The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows a superior level of fruit integrity and bright intensity next to the base Brunello from the same vintage. This is a lovely, yet unabashedly masculine expression that puts its pretty tertiary (or aged) aromas on full display. There’s plenty of old leather and smoked bacon on the bouquet, but these elements are offset by a greater sense of fruit fullness in the mouth. The close is tight and compact and the wine improves with up to three hours of aeration before serving. Drink: 2014-2028

Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2013-2029, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Apr 2008

The 1999 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is still an infant. Fresh, perfumed violets, dark cherries, minerals, earthiness, mocha and spices flow from the glass as this full-bodied, intense wine gradually reveals its potential. The wine shows incredible detail for its size and despite being very closed down, it richness and depth are amply evident. The vintage saw cool weather all the way into the summer, with very little rain. Oenologist Piero Talenti, the estate's guiding light, passed away in 1999 after having spent more than 50 years at the property.
