The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino opens to soft layers of plush fruit and red cherry. The wine shows a ripe side to the vintage with bold fruit that is chewy and rich. Despite the wine's opulence, it never feels jammy or overdone. In fact, it reins in that extra sunshine with expert care and attention. In contrast to the richness of the bouquet, the medium-bodied mouthfeel is toned and exhibits less dimension overall. The appeal here is genuine and immediate.

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is laced with dried cherry, tobacco, mint, anise, crushed flowers and dried herbs, all in an attractive, juicy style that is best appreciated sooner rather than later. This is a pretty, forward, Brunello from Camigliano that will drink well pretty much upon release, as the flavors show a good bit of development.
Tasted blind. Mid ruby. Expressive strawberry and raspberry nose that is just a tiny bit jammy. Full-flavoured strawberry fruit with surprisingly dominant acidity, as if it had been corrected. Certainly delivers a snappy finish. (WS)
