Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2021-2038, Neal Martin, Aug 2018

The 2016 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a refined, detailed and mineral driven bouquet with touches of flint and granite percolating through the crisp Granny Smith apple aromas. The palate is very detailed and full of tension, razor-sharp precision here with a supremely well detailed, poised, slightly bitter finish that electrifies the senses. This is superb: one of the best from l'equipe Raveneau this year.

From one of the parcels that suffered the most in this challenging vintage, the 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre offers up notes of citrus zest, pear, lemongrass and anise. On the palate, it's full-bodied, rounded and very glossy, with good concentration and stony depth but an atypically gourmand, textural profile. It's a lovely wine, but it isn't one of the great classics from this superb vineyard.

(just 15 hectoliters per hectare produced): Bright light yellow with a green tinge. Tight aromas of lime and powdered stone suggest a wine with firm acidity. Then rich and thick for this superb premier cru (Isabelle Raveneau described it as "more of a Côte de Beaune style") but with lovely saline minerality and perfectly integrated citrussy acidity. Very concentrated, utterly seductive wine with terrific breadth and a tactile, very long finish that's surprisingly lively and perfumed.
