The 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos felt flatter on the nose than its peers. It is well defined but lacks a little spark and energy, though that is addressed with aeration as it develops more mineralité in the glass. The palate is concentrated with a slightly honeyed texture, and quite spicy toward the energetic, saline finish, which partly compensates for the aromatics. Great potential. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

A wine of exotic richness, off the charts intensity and thrilling beauty, the 2017 Chablis Les Clos Grand Clos is utterly mesmerizing from the very first taste. It is also clearly one of the wines of the vintage. The sheer density, explosive energy and flamboyance are not exactly typical of either Clos of 2017, but they do make for a Chablis that delivers maximum sensory overload. What a wine!
The 2017 Chablis Les Clos Grand Cru has a strict and quite reserved bouquet (especially following the Grenouilles) with more mineral/flint aromas percolating through the citrus fruit. The palate is very well defined with a little butteriness on the entry in terms of texture, smooth and seductive but this is deceiving because it segues into a very taut, linear and precise finish that feels long and satisfying. A brilliant Les Clos from Benoît Droin.
