Mid ruby with orange tinges. Finely perfumed balsamic cherry and still surprisingly closed. Iron with a hint of oak. Succulent and a little racy on the finish with fine tannic grip. Still plenty of future. (WS)

The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is a total pleasure, with a gracefully-maturing bouquet of dusty, dried rose, licorice, cedar shavings and hints of sweet smoke. It's silky and round, with depths of ripe cherry-berry fruit complemented by hints of tobacco and a contrasting bitter tinge of sour citrus. The 2013 finishes with edgy tannins, medium length and a mineral flourish. While I'd prefer a little more energy, the 2013 shouldn't be ignored. A few more years of cellaring should reveal an understated beauty.
This 2013 Brunello di Montalcino from La Magia performs very nicely and represents a sure growing curve compared to past vintages which tended to be one-dimensional and not as complex. This edition, however, shows interesting nuances, especially where the inner brightness of that bold cherry fruit is concerned. The tannins are softly integrated, yet the wine delivers rich structure and texture nonetheless.
Lustrous mid ruby. Hints of iron and shy cherry fruit on the nose. Very compact fruit that is in the grip of tannins. Great length and beautiful depth of fruit, but the tannins are a bit brutal at the moment. (WS) (JR)
