Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2018-2033, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2019

From bottle, the 2016 Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière Blanc was also showing very well, and it will be hard to choose between this somewhat more cool-vintage-styled rendition and the more immediately giving, expressive 2017. Offering up aromas of green apples, toasted nuts, iodine and subtle chamomile, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and elegantly textural, with a bright line of acidity, chalky extract and a pure, saline finish.

Full yellow with gold highlights. Aromas of yellow fruits and soil are complicated by honey and medicinal menthol. Fat, sweet, spicy wine with good concentration and ripeness; the menthol quality carries through on the palate. Finishes with good length and punch. The estate made 50 hectoliters per hectare here, as the vines escaped the frost. They are also planted on well-drained soil, according to Alexandre Bachelet, "and never produce big grapes." One of the brothers' four parcels is situated on calcaire with small rock, and another one on deeper clay soil, which gives depth to the wine.
