Punteggio 93-95/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

Bright medium red. Less black on the nose than most of Fourrier's other 2016s, offering complex aromas of raspberry, wild strawberry, crushed rock and smoky minerals. Plush and fine-grained but light on its feet, boasting terrific juicy lift; like a mouthful of crushed rocks and flowers. Youthfully tight but not hard, this wine finishes with terrific sappy energy, savory minerality and building sweetness. I would have guessed that this beauty was harvested earlier than many of Fourrier's domain wines but in fact it was picked on September 30.

Tank sample. Transparent crimson. Sweet and candied on the nose. Something very slightly soapy – of the boudoir – overlying the fruit. But the fruit is so luscious on the palate! You could lose yourself in this. Very racy and lifted but with the integrity of the climat. Youthful and textured. Great persistence. Builds on the finish. Chapeau! (JR)

The wood treatment is more evident on the cool aromas of various dark berries, violet and soft sauvage nuances. There is both good volume and mid-palate density to the overtly mineral-driven middle weight flavors that also conclude in a slightly dry, edgy, gassy and warm finish. This too didn’t show particularly well though in this case it seems more likely that the dryness is attributable to the abundant gas. January 2018. www.burghound.com
