Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2018-2025, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2018

(about 35 hectoliters per hectare produced): Pale, bright yellow. Enticing fruit-driven aromas of peach, fresh apricot, hazelnut and flowers. Lovely silky, supple wine with nicely integrated citrussy acidity framing its citrus fruit, yellow stone fruit and spice flavors. A plump but rather elegant wine with good Meursault typicity. Véronique Drouhin told me that the family does a long, slow toasting of their barrels to minimize new oak flavors.

The 2016 Meursault Village had been bottled three weeks before my visit in Beaune. It has quite a showy, brioche and peach skin-scented bouquet with a smudge of yellow plum in the background. The palate is well balanced with plenty of peach and nectarine on the entry, perhaps a more commercial Meursault, but there is nothing wrong with that if it is well made. And I feel that this is well made.

Bought-in grapes or unfermented must. Tiny proportion of premier cru fruit in this. Pale straw. Sweet and straightforward creamy fruit with a fine streak of green acidity running through it. A little raw on the end. (JR)
