This wine was tasted blind at the Burgundy 2012 tasting in Beaune. The 2012 Chablis 1Er Cru Vaulorent has repaid its years in bottle that I suggested last year. Here, it has a well defined bouquet with touches of walnut and smoke developing in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity. Concentrated and intense with layers of citrus-driven fruit, there is a palpable sense of energy towards the finish that is very attractive. This is certainly worth seeking out.

Sage, mint, apricot pit and dried flowers emerge from the 2012 Chablis Vaulorent. Here the style is distinctly savory, with considerable nuance and complexity. Bright veins of acidity support the highly expressive finish.
(from vines averaging more than 50 years of age): Straw-yellow. Nose dominated by wet-stone minerality. The most intense and fruity of these 2012s to this point, showing lovely mineral energy to the citrus flavors. The saline, palate-saturating finish shows excellent verve and dusty grip.
