Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2018-2023, Neal Martin, Nov 2018

The 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chenevottes 1er Cru has a clean, precise bouquet of tropical scents (white peach and a touch of passion fruit) kept on a tight leash so that terroir and mineralité can still be discerned. The palate is well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity that slices through the lightly honeyed fruit. It lacks some tension toward the brioche and canned apricot finish, but there is adequate length and freshness. Drink over the next four or five years. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Domaine Bernard Moreau's 2015 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes offers up a fragrant bouquet of apple, pear, peach and white flowers, framed by light reduction that rapidly dissipates with aeration. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied and more structurally open-knit and expansive than the Vergers, with lovely purity and a juicy, fragrant finish.

(these vines usually ripen their fruit quickly and are harvested a bit earlier than the Vergers): Medium yellow, like all of these 2015s. Sexy, expressive scents of peach, truffle and smoke. Plusher and sweeter than the Vergers, larger-scaled and richer than that wine but without quite the same complexity. Perhaps a bit less elegant too, as this premier cru conveys a clearer sense of the vintage's power and alcohol. Less zesty in the middle palate but finishes firm and ripe, with strong dry extract and a faintly exotic character.
