Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2018-2028, Neal Martin, Nov 2018

The 2015 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has a ripe, tropical-themed bouquet of smudged mango and lychee aromas, perhaps picked a day or two tardy. The palate is smooth and rounded on the entry, moderate in terms of acidity, but just a little predictable and short on the finish. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Pale, green-tinged yellow. Strongly mineral-driven aromas of lime, lemon cake icing and crushed stone. Very tightly wound, in fact almost austere for the year, offering classic citrus, menthol and mineral flavors that are pure and sharply delineated but not yet expansive. This doesn't yet show the texture or richness of the Lys but should blossom with bottle aging. Harmonious acidity and a note of pineapple give this very promising wine a bracing, focused finish.

The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre has a light granite, slightly smoky bouquet that is still broody, just as it showed out of barrel last year. The palate is balanced with a light sea influence on the entry, a touch of Golden Delicious apples and fresh pear with a precise, if slightly short, finish. Give this another three years in bottle.
