Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2020-2038, Neal Martin, Nov 2018

The 2015 Meursault Genevrières 1er Cru has a sophisticated bouquet with assiduously used new oak and just a very slight reduction that ebbs away with aeration. The aromatics here - lemon thyme and white peach - are beautifully defined and very pure. The palate is taut on the entry. There is a killer line of acidity that binds this Meursault together, and lip-smacking salinity on the finish. Bon vin ! Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Bright light-medium yellow. Very clean but closed nose hints at yellow fruits and rocks enlivened by lemon and caraway seed. Not quite as harmonious or broad as the Meursault Charmes Dessus but conveys a fine-grained texture to its pink grapefruit and lemon flavors. Really glistens on the slightly bitter-edged, long, very dry finish, with a touch of white pepper adding a zesty quality. Strong potential here.

Cask sample. Oak seems a little more in evidence here but there is also a stony mineral quality. Some SO2 interfering a little at the moment but I am sure it will pass. Sour-fresh stoniness on the palate, the fruit in the background. Not particularly generous, but balanced overall – crisp acidity and stony fruit with the leesy texture filling out the finish. (JH)
