Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2019-2023, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Sep 2017

Bright, light yellow. Expressive scents of apple, pear, lemon drop, spices and flowers. Plump and round but a bit blurry in the middle palate, with its orchard fruit and floral flavors joined by a distinct menthol element. Finishes with a bit of a burn but also decent length and firmness. This wine actually says 14.5% alcohol on the bottle, the highest of these 2015s.

The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru du Château Blanc was picked 2 and 3 September when the skins attained a golden color, and underwent the length and intensity of pressing compared to previous vintages. I found the nose rather distant, missing a personality that can be easily defined. The palate is better with fresh peach, nectarine and dried honey notes, the acidity nicely judged with tropical hints towards the finish. If the aromatics just manifest something to say, then this will be a fine Beaune Blanc...so maybe afford it 3-4 years bottle age and hopefully it will gain more personality.

Punteggio 87-89/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jun 2016

Subtle but expressive nose melds apple, pear, dried stone fruits, citrus peel, spices and flowers. Suave, plump and fine-grained, with just enough acidity to maintain balance and vitality. This is the highest in alcohol of the Bouchard 2015s along with the Beaune Clos Saint-Landry, at 14%. With a lot of baby fat, it's a bit warm and blurry on the back end. Like a number of his colleagues, Weber reduced his percentage of new wood for the richest, highest-alcohol cuvées in 2015, particular his Beaune wines.
