The 2015 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru is a hit in the kitchen and among the handful of guests I was able to serve. Still young, the 2015 needs at least a few more years in bottle to start approaching what is likely to be a long plateau. Even so, it is breathtaking in its grandeur. Captivating aromas offer plenty of allure. Rich and wonderfully deep, the 2015 at times has a feeling of structure more like a red wine. Readers lucky enough to own it should be thrilled. Patience is key, although I must admit, that is very hard when it comes to these wines.

Pale yellow. Deeper and richer on the nose than the Blanchots, offering aromas of lemon and lime zest, spices and mint. Thick in the way of the vintage but with terrific energy and definition to the flavors of citrus fruits, herbs and spearmint. More structured and powerful than the Blanchots, but then these vines escaped the hail. Utterly fine-grained wine with outstanding density, lift and rising length. A great 2015 in the making.
The 2015 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur has a very backward nose, one of the most laconic of Raveneau’s 2015s at the moment. The palate is powerful and intense with a citric entry, quite tensile in the mouth and regaining its composure to deliver a very harmonious orange zest and white peach-tinged second half that feels very assured. This Valmur is packed with potential. Superb.
(these vines are now 40 years old): Very pale yellow. Lemon zest, lime blossom and chalk dust on the nose. Boasts superb inner-mouth tension and energy for the year, with taut calcaire minerality and grapefruit zest dominating. A classic youthfully austere Valmur with a whiplash of a vintage that suffuses the palate with lemon and minerals. This will need at least seven or eight years of bottle aging. No hail here.
