Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2023-2033, Josh Raynolds, Apr 2019

Opaque ruby. Cherry liqueur, cassis and candied licorice aromas are energized and sharpened by a smoky mineral note and a sexy floral nuance that builds steadily with air. Offers sappy, deeply concentrated dark fruit preserve, star anise, vanilla and violet pastille flavors that show excellent clarity and back-end mineral cut. Chewy, late-arriving tannins support a long, appealingly sweet finish that strongly echoes the dark berry and floral notes. (raised for 18 months in new and used French oak barrels)

The top cuvée is the 2015 Priorat Gratallops, a blend of 85% Garnacha, 13% Cariñena and the rest an assortment of grapes. It's slightly more reserved and closed compared to the Les Terrasses but blossoms with time in the glass to show terrific notes of black raspberries, cassis, crushed flowers, violets, and assorted dried earth and mineral characteristics. It's medium to full-bodied, has a light, balanced, graceful texture, fine, polished tannin, no hard edges, and a great finish.

The village red ("vi de vila" in Catalan) 2015 Gratallops is sourced from their own vineyards in the village, and the varietal components came to 85% Garnacha, 13% Cariñena and 2% white grapes: Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo and PX. It fermented in oak vats with indigenous yeasts and matured in barriques for 15 months. Tasted next to the Terrasses from the same year, it doesn't have the finesse; it's not a powerful vintage and might be a little diluted, but it's full of flavor. 17,500 bottles were filled in February 2017.
