The Sesti 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is thin, simplistic and hollow compared to its peers. The wine mysteriously tastes devoid of the plump ripe cherry and blackberry fruit that characterizes this vintage. Instead, you get neutral berry, green olive and garden herb.

Sesti's 2011 Brunello di Montalcino is a rich, resonant wine with plenty of near-term appeal. Sweet tobacco, cherry, iron, dried flowers and mint all meld together in the glass. Soft, silky and ample, the 2011 is already quite delicious, although, like so many Brunellos of the vintage, it is probably best enjoyed on the younger side.
Tasted blind. Maturing mid ruby with watery orange rim. A little herbal, yet full of character. Fine, sweet fruit lifted by lots of acidity and fine grainy tannins. Elegant, precise wine that is still very young. (WS)
