Very pretty and delicate with ripe red berries, tangerine and super-fine tannins. Lovely inner richness of fruit and spice, balanced acidity and overall elegance.

The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta is a tremendous wine and one of the best expressions of the vintage. This beautiful Brunello reflects the exuberant personality of its artist creator, Sandro Chia, and tastes like it has absorbed all of the radiant sunshine of the vintage. What stands out here is the softness, intensity and the purity of the red fruit aromas. Background notes of spice, leather, dried herb and crushed mineral add complexity. The mouthfeel is robust and generous. Castello Romitorio always performs well in warm vintages, and this is one of my go-to Montalcino estates in 2011.
The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Filo di Seta is quite a bit darker and deeper than the straight bottling. Succulent dark cherry, plum, smoke, tobacco and licorice all flesh out in the glass. This is another 2011 Brunello that has more than enough depth and overall intensity to drink well for at least a handful of years. The Filo di Seta is impressive in 2011.
Tasted blind. Dark, youthful ruby. Modern oak and fruit nose with hints of smoke. Tightly built fruit and tannins on the palate with creamy notes on the finish and plenty of acidity. Ambitious and very much a work in progress. (WS)
