The 2015 Pibran is one of the best vintages in recent years. It has a gorgeous bouquet of blackberry, wild strawberry and cold stone scents, developing veins of graphite with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, very well-judged acidity and surprising backbone toward the finish, suggesting that this will be a long-term Pibran. Excellent. Tasted at the Pibran vertical at Château Pichon-Baron.

The 2015 Pibran is ample, juicy and absolutely delicious, all qualities that make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Floral notes add lift to the racy, red stone fruit. The 2015 is an unusually polished, nuanced Pibran.
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Pibran is a little reduced to begin, with black fruits and tar notions plus hints of dried herbs and chocolate. Medium-bodied with a great core of expressive fruit, it has grainy tannins and a refreshing finish.
A blend of equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in 50% new oak, the 2015 Château Pibran is a beautiful Pauillac that does well in a vintage which can be erratic for this appellation. Very classic notes of cassis, tobacco leaf, lead pencil shavings, and spice give way to a medium to full-bodied, elegant red that has fine tannin, nicely integrated acidity, and top-notch purity of fruit. This is a tiny estate owned by Pichon-Longueville Baron, and it’s a Pauillac well worth checking out. I suspect it’s also a great value and should keep for 15-20 years.
