There is more Merlot in the 2011 Caiarossa than in past vintages of this blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah and Alicante. This was a hot vintage, and there is a high level of concentration in the 2011, along with a soft, velvety texture. This wine appears to have moved further down its evolutionary track, with aged aromas of spice and cured meat. If you have a bottle, don't wait any longer to drink it. It is on the decline.

A striking, radiant wine, the 2011 Caiarossa is one of the better wines I have tasted from this property. Mocha, plum, espresso and dark spices all flesh out in a warm, inviting red that captures the essence of the Tuscan coast. All the elements meld together effortlessly. The 2011 is intense but never heavy. I imagine the 2011 will offer a decade or so of fine drinking. This is a terrific showing.
Youthful concentrated crimson. Wonderful, elegant, chalky, raspberry and cherry fruit on the nose and palate. Supple and elegant palate. (WS)
Blend of biodynamically farmed 24% Cabernet Franc, 22% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot, 14% Sangiovese, 6% Alicante, 5% Syrah. Winter rain helped during the particularly hot, dry spring and summer. All grapes were picked by the end of September for once. Notably dark purplish crimson. Still very youthful nose – sweet, slightly simple, raw purple fruits on the nose. Very definitely unresolved even if the ingredients are respectably ripe. (JR)
