Tasted blind. Almost pitch-black ruby with orange rim. A little stalky on the nose and plenty of rich fruit on the palate. Gripping tannins. Dense and rich on the finish. Wait for it to settle. (WS)

Donatella Cinelli Colombini's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is dark, sumptuous and beautifully layered in the glass. Dark red plums, cloves, new leather and menthol blossom as the 2010 shows off its ample, resonant personality. The 2010 drinks well today, but it should also develop nicely for at least the next handful of years. This is one of the more open-knit, supple wines of the vintage, with all the elements in the right place.
Donatella Cinelli Colombini's 2010 Brunello di Montalcino makes a big and pleasurable impact on all the senses. First, it hits the nose with a wonderful medley of ripe, dark fruit, spice, tar, tobacco, leather and dried herbs. The wine is impeccably made and the quality of fruit is outstanding. Ultimately, your patronage of this brand depends on whether you like this bold, softer style. If you do, this Brunello delivers satisfaction in spades. Fleshy oak tones of cinnamon and clove round off the finish. It is extremely soft and smooth to the touch. This wine can be enjoyed in the near or long-term.
Mid ruby with orange rim and starting to look mature. A little stewed on the nose with the first signs of oxidation. Perhaps too long in oak? A shame, because there is lovely bright acidity even if the tannins are a little astringent, but the fruit is getting a little tired. (WS)
