Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2017-2035, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Mar 2016

This is the finest wine I have tasted from Sandro Chia's fairy tale Castello Romitorio. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a stunning creation and it excels on any number of levels. The vineyards are now at their full potential and the winemaking team has amassed enough experience under its belt to show greater confidence in terms of its stylistic philosophy. I love the fullness and the generosity of the bouquet, and I relished in tasting those delicious layers of dark berry, spice, dried herb and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is equally satisfying with opulent richness and impressive flavor persistence. Castello Romitorio has set a new benchmark.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2018-2030, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2016

The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a big, powerful wine. There is no shortage of intensity or depth, that is for sure. At the same time, I don't find the pedigree, complexity or character of what a Riserva should be. Black cherry, spice, tobacco, cedar and plum round out the plush finish. Beams of tannin and acidity give the 2010 its energy. Still quite youthful and tightly wound, the 2010 is going to need time to unwind. Today, it is virtually impenetrable, although there is good depth and freshness. Black cherry, sage, lavender and spice are some of the many notes that add complexity as the wine gradually unfurls in the glass.

Tasted blind. Very dark, impenetrable ruby. Powerful nose with hints of oak. Truly convincing in its richness, striking a great balance with the acidity and muscular tannins. Modernist touch of oak, but well executed. Promising. (WS)
