Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2020-2032, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jun 2016

(Germain used just one new barrel and one one-year- old barrel out of eight): Bright green-tinged yellow. Deeper-pitched on the nose than the "regular" Corton-Charlemagne, offering scents of yellow fruits, flint and menthol. Denser and more solid in the mouth, showing outstanding concentration and energy and a tactile element of dusty stone. Projects an impression of subtle sucrosité owing to its richness of texture. The extremely long, slowly mounting finish stains the palate with lemon, white peach and stone flavors. More sheer dimension here but I like the subtlety and airiness of its sibling. This wine is made from a single parcel in Aloxe-Corton while Girardin's other Corton-Charlie is a blend, 60% of which is from the cooler, minerally Pernand side of the Corton hill.

(this parcel is located in the heart of Aloxe): Bright yellow. Lemon drop, quinine, lavender, brown spices and vanilla on the nose, with some apparent oak influence (15% new). Dense, sweet and spicy, with lemon zest and mineral flavors showing surprising fat and early accessibility. A silky Corton-Charlemagne with a very long finish. This may well taste good early and late. Am I underrating this?
