Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2013, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2007

The 2003 Chianti Classico presents attractive candied red cherries, licorice and earthiness notes on a supple, soft-textured frame, with excellent length and a lingering note of sweetness on the finish. The lack of color intensity (typical of 2003) and the early signs of leather and coffee bean flavors suggest it may not be a terribly long-lived wine, but it is absolutely delicious today and should continue drink at this level over the next two to three years.

Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2007-2010, Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, Jun 2007

The 2003 Chianti Classico presents attractive candied red cherries, licorice and earthy notes on a supple, soft-textured frame, with excellent length and a lingering note of sweetness on the finish. The lack of color intensity (typical of 2003) and the early signs of leather and coffee bean flavors suggest it may not be a terribly long-lived wine, but it is absolutely delicious today and should continue to drink at this level over the next two to three years. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2010. High-density vineyards, biodynamic farming and low yields are the hallmarks of the wines of Castello dei Rampolla, located in the prestigious Conca d’Oro in Panzano. Despite its elegant name Castello di Rampolla is a small, family-run property with a decidedly artisanal approach to working in both the vineyards and the cellar. The estate produces big, concentrated wines with imposing tannic structures that have proven to be extremely ageworthy. Importer: Vias Imports, New York, NY; tel. (212) 629-0200
