Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2020-2029, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2016

Good full, dark red. Raspberry and stone on the nose, lifted by floral high tones. Denser and spicier than the village Chambolle, showing a bit more oak influence but not quite the pristine fruit quality of that wine. More saline and electric. Best today on the very long back end, which features firm, chewy tannins.

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées has a broody incense and tarry-scented nose, perhaps one that is beginning to shut down, just a faint sea-spray scent in the distance. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and a keen line of acidity, quite structured with a hint of dried blood on the finish. This is one of Mugnier's more enigmatic 2013s in the making and I like that.

The 2013 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées is seamless and super-expressive today, with a striking interplay between elements of power and finesse. There is wonderful depth and resonance to the flavors, but also a bit more overall tension than I am accustomed to seeing here. Still, the wine's persistence and overall sense of harmony are absolutely compelling.

Bright, dark red. Slightly reduced aromas of smoke, minerals and chocolate, with a suggestion of roasted dark berries. Rich but a bit rustic for this wine, hinting at a dried berry character. Clearly reduced today (this was racked in September) but also a bit rough in its tannic texture. An awkward showing: I wanted more verve. I almost certainly caught this one on a grumpy day.
