The 2013 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru from Domaine Raveneau sports lucid green tints in the glass. It has what you might describe as a “mean” nose, hints of fresh limes, gooseberry and petrichor. Plenty of mineralité here. Moderate intensity, tight at first, this Valmur requires a few minutes to find its groove, delivering stem ginger-tinged citric peel with a slightly oiliness towards the finish that is surprising given the growing season. Quite penetrating on the close. This is excellent, yet it deserves more bottle age.

Pale yellow. Explosive perfume of soft citrus fruits, flowers, ginger and crushed rock. Rich and multidimensional, conveying an impression of energy to its floral and powdered stone flavors. Long on the the aftertaste. The crop level from this 1970 planting was 50 hectoliters per hectare. Should offer considerable early sex appeal.
The 2013 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur has an extremely well defined bouquet with what feels like more precision than the Blanchots. Here, there is a touch of generosity with almond and even a very slight creme brûlée scent. The palate is very well balanced, more vivacious and charming than the curmudgeonly Blanchots with a sensual, caressing and lightly spiced finish that is just very...Valmur. This is superb.
The 2013 Chablis Valmur is quite overt in this vintage. Exotic and at times a bit tropical, the Valmur isn't as ample or creamy as the Blanchot on the palate, but it is decidedly open, resonant and super-finessed. The silky, textured finish is striking in its beauty.
