FINE+RARE, Aug 2021

Dom Pérignon’s 2012 expertly captures the contrasting nature of the vintage – with its piercing freshness and generous, textured ripeness. The nose is zesty, layered with notes of lime, green apple, chalk and white flowers. Initially, the wine is super focused and precise – offering clean flavours and focused acidity, before dramatically expanding on the palate with bold, pronounced notes of firm, ripe, full fruit. There’s a creamy, mouth-filling softness, the generosity then reined in by an impressively long and driven finish with a bitter, minty, herbal and mineral freshness. A blend of 51% Pinot Noir and 49% Chardonnay with 5g/l dosage, this is an excellent Dom Pérignon.

Once again, the 2012 Dom Pérignon is stellar. It's a potent, tightly-wound Champagne. That should serve it well in the future, but today, the 2012 is not terribly expressive. Time in the glass brings out striking aromatic top notes and plenty of energy to match. Low yields, down 30-40%, produced a wild, dynamic Champagne endowed with tremendous character. It's an exceptional Champagne from a year marked by frost, hail, mildew, oidium and botrytis. Pretty much everything, in other words. (AG)

The 2012 Dom Pérignon is developing very nicely on cork, exhibiting a complex bouquet of pear, confit citrus fruits, honeycomb, buttered toast, iodine and nuts framed by a deft touch of youthful reduction. Full-bodied, rich and muscular, with a layered core of fruit and a pillowy mousse, it's a vinous, vibrant Champagne that concludes with a saline finish.

Incredibly complex nose of dried green apples, grapefruit pith, preserved lemons, toast, oyster shells, cloves, sourdough, salted caramel and quince. Layered, refined and so sleek, with salty minerality and a toasty edge to the dried citrus. Structured and tense, yet elegant and almost endless.
