Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2023-2046, Neal Martin, Oct 2023

The 2013 Corton Clos Rognet Grand Cru has a startling nose with one of the purest bouquets I have encountered from this vintage after ten years, showing ebullient red berry fruit and crushed stone. Medium-bodied, open and generous within the context of the season, brisk redcurrant and blackcurrant fruit, fine mineralité with a slightly conservative and saline finish. This is showing very well, and will continue to age with aplomb. This is a top-notch 2013 Grand Cru with a long life ahead.

Bright, deep red. An alluring basket of fruits on the nose, complicated by scents of licorice, smoke and underbrush. Seamless and refined in texture, boasting a superb balance of sweetness and acidity. Great purity and incipient complexity to the flavors of berries, red cherry, minerals and earth. This classic 2013 finishes with superb building length. Elegant for such a big boy, this very young grand cru should deepen in the bottle for years.

Bright, dark red. Ripe, expressive aromas of maraschino cherry, redcurrant, minerals and sweet oak. Dense, rich and deep, boasting outstanding smoky sweetness to its red fruit and mineral flavors. Really resounds on the back end, finishing with big, broad, thoroughly ripe tannins. This fruit was picked with 12.1% potential alcohol, the highest of the range, but the bottled wine will barely reach 13%. An outstanding example of a 2013 that combines full phenolic ripeness with moderate alcohol.

The 2013 Corton Clos Rognet Grand Cru has a more forest-floor influenced bouquet at the moment with “timid” red berry fruit mixed with wilted rose-petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky textured entry. The acidity here is well judged and it delivers a pleasant piquancy on the finish. No, there is not huge length here…this is more about the poise.
