Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières has a more topical-tinged bouquet than the Genevrières courtesy of Henri Boillot, with scents of butterscotch and acacia complementing the citrus fruit. The palate is well balanced with vibrant acidity. Lighter in style than other Genevrières, it does not quite deliver the complexity that the nose promises and I would be inclined to drink this in its youth rather than grace it with bottle age. Pale bright yellow. Pear, apple and stone on the nose. Juicy and intense on the palate, showing lovely energy and minerality. A major step up in intensity and length from the Charmes, displaying lovely definition and a saline quality. Offers a rather refined texture, with its harmonious acidity well supported by flesh. Finishes with good lingering fruit and stone flavors.
